Christopher Beeley : The Unity of Christ

Subtitled “continuity and conflict in patristic tradition”, this highly acclaimed study of how a unified understanding of Christ’s nature, human and divine, came to be forged from the differing opinions of major Church Fathers, is an insightful contribution to our understanding of the theological preoccupations that dominated this early period of Church history. From Origen to Augustine, perhaps most interesting of all is the large amount of attention Beeley gives to Eusebius of Caesarea, often treated as “merely” the originator of written accounts of the Church’s development as history, but here given full weight as a theologian in his own right.
