It is likely that few outside the Orthodox Church have heard about Mother Maria Skobtsova, so this book is an excellent introduction to this deeply spiritual woman. Completely given over to the service of others, she would ultimately be arrested by the Gestapo during the Second World War and was to die in Ravensbruck concentration camp. The “Essential writings” series gives us, as its name indicates, a selection of writings characteristic of the spirituality and beliefs of the saint under review. Highly recommended.
