King’s Ride

The long view down this enormous field has been cunningly enhanced by the correspondingly narrow frame of the painting. To the right, tall chestnuts line the “King’s Ride”, a favourite ride of the monarch and his retinue in the early nineteenth century and still adding an imposing grace to this view today.
