Watch our beekeeping sister in action as she transfers frames from one hive to another…

In this video, filmed earlier in the summer, Sr Helen is transferring a few frames of strong, healthy brood (bee larvae) from one hive to a neighbouring weaker hive in order to build it up.

“By the end of July, the beekeeper is thinking ahead to winter and wants to make sure all the hives are “strong enough” to get through the winter months when the hives are closed down and the beekeeper cannot open the hives to help out because the temperatures are too low,” she explains. “The weaker hive in question would not have made it through the winter as it had too few bees. I put in the extra brood to build up the bee numbers in good time.”
