Sr Elizabeth Ruth's new book

Waiting in Hope with Mary

Our sister Elizabeth Ruth’s new book has just been published: Waiting in Hope with Mary. It is a book of meditations designed not just for one season of the church’s year, but for those times when we must live the advent mystery in our own lives too.

In this book, Sr Elizabeth explains, she wanted to make Mary a real person, situating her in her Judaic culture and heritage, with Old Testament women who might well have inspired her in her own faith journey. These women, Mary’s foremothers, were ready like her to risk and face difficult situations with courage and fortitude.

“We too have the same journey to make,” she says. “And so [in the book] I also use contemporary examples of how each of us needs to accept our own unique life vocation and find in it the matter for holiness.”

“Through the Bible we join a long line of people who must wait, hoping and trusting that there is a divine plan in which humans, and through them all creation, are invited to cooperate.”
