Sr Elizabeth Ruth shares how the spiritual wisdom and teachings of Julian of Norwich – whose Feast day in the Catholic Church’s calendar is today – helped her in her own spiritual journey in an online article for the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri based in Poland.

“With Julian’s wisdom and guidance, I have found hope and healing in this journey—and ultimately, joy,” she writes. “The days in Carmel flow in a rhythm of prayer, solitude, work, and community presence. At first, everything seemed perfect. I had found what I was looking for. But loneliness quickly makes us aware of our inner poverty […] And it was during this time that I discovered Julian of Norwich, a woman from East Anglia living as a hermit in the 14th century, and her book Revelations of Divine Love. Julian, like Thérèse of Lisieux, sees God, revealed in the suffering of Jesus, as a God of mercy and love who can bring good even out of our faults and sins. We do not have to be perfect.
